Poseidon submits desalination plants: Coastal Commission to consider project in August

One plan is to reduce the desalination plant's effect on ocean life. The second is to reduce the energy needed by the plant, which would in turn reduce generation of greenhouse gases.
The plans were requested by the commission as a condition of approving the project, said Scott Maloni, a Poseidon vice president.
The Coastal Commission plans to meet sometime in early August in
Poseidon plans to build the desalination plant next to the Encina Power Station. The plant would turn up to 50 million gallons a day of seawater into drinking water, about 9.3 percent of the county's current annual water consumption.
