BEAUMONT - Timothy Smith will assume duties of Beaumont-Cherry Valley Water District's public information officer on April 14.

Smith, who had been a reporter with the Record Gazette, a weekly publication in Banning, has written numerous stories about the district and said he understands a lot of the district's issues.

"I think it'll be fun," he said. "There are challenges to be met and I think it'll be fun. As it is put to me, my goal is to help the water district get the proper information out there because there is a lot of improper information out there."

The event, set for 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Crest Theatre, is the third town hall planned in conjunction with the “California’s Water” series for public television, produced by Howser and underwritten by ACWA members.

Designed to inform and engage community leaders on water issues featured in the series, this free town hall event will explore regional topics as well as the statewide water crisis.
