A wastewater overflow in the
According to Sonoma County Water Agency Public Information Officer, Brad Sherwood, at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, water officials responded to the overflow from a manhole at the intersection of
Work crews cleared the blockage and removed the wastewater from the creek. Sherwood reported in a press release, that it was unlikely that fish or wildlife were affected by the overflow.
Past overflows in the district have been attributed to grease clogging sewer lines. To keep the lines "grease-free" water officials say fats, oils or cooking grease should never be put down the sink or garbage disposal. Instead they should be poured into a tight-fitting container and put in the garbage can.
In addition, food scraps should be put into compost bins or waste containers rather than into the drain or garbage disposal.
The affected sewer main is part of the Sonoma Valley County Sanitation District which is operated by the Sonoma County Water Agency. As required by law, the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board, California Department of Fish and Game, Sonoma County Health Services and the Office of Emergency Services were notified of the spill.
